Popularity always wins...

Which is a real shame sometimes... I know I talk a lot about the branding of certain products and how they win over those that are better, but it seems that this isn't just a technology issue.

Recently child singer, Justin Beiber nearly broke Twitter when 50 fans per second tried to follow him after he tweeted about being in traffic!

Just search his name and there are a million Beilebers out there...and he isn't the only 'celebrity' who has broken follower records.

Being popular across social networks is now trendy and cool and everyone apparently needs to reach 100,000 +, but how can you keep track of your own popularity:

Klout.com

Compare your influence amongst others, and try and boost it in whatever way possible. Comparing yourself with the most popular people may make you addicted to the site and possibly depressed if your attempt at social network domination isn't taking off as you hoped!

Peer Index

Supposedly a business tool, it takes all your info from every network you have ever been on to give you a score - a bit vague in its reasoning’s and it can go up or down depending on its mood.

Foursquare

See who checks in the most to your favourite places, and see if you can overtake them and gain a virtual badge. The problem is you can cheat, so if you are a goody-two-shoes or have better things to do you will be low down on the popularity list.

Of course, this is not a definitive list - and if you want a more in-depth conversation about Justin Beiber, Z-list celebs and social networking get in touch!
