Asda has just announced the sale of a 8 inch tablet for £99!
The press release boasts "The tablet has built-in WiFi, a 4GB internal memory (capable of holding thousands of average-sized books) and a micro SDHC card slot for additional storage. It is powered by the popular Android 2.1 ‘Éclair’ operating system and is perfect for music and video playback, showing off holiday snaps, reading eBooks, browsing the web and playing games."
It doesn't mention whether you can use spreadsheets or office, so it may just be a fun device to check emails on the go. But, it shows that a cheap tablet can be produced and what is stopping Apple from dropping their price and offering a device to the masses?
Well, if the rumours are to be believed this is what they will be doing in the future with a cheap version of the iPhone - The company does need to do something to pull their finger out to compete in the marketplace.
The brand can only keep momentum going for a while before everyone realises they can get better and cheaper elsewhere.
Asda's model is likely to be sold out super quick, would you choose price over brand?
