Stop Stalking Me... Part Two

By Editor

Following on from my entry last year about geo-locations technology has evolved that bit more and now all those who have iPhones and iPad 3G's can be found in a second!

Delightfully Apple keeps track of where you go saving every detail then copying it to your computer when the two are synchronised.

Seriously!? Why does this need to happen – and is this the reason my iPhone is so slow?

The ‘secret’ file contains the latitude and longitude of the phone along with a timestamp. But, it isn’t so secret that someone with the know-how could steal your phone and discover where you have been, probably work out where you live, assume you buy nice things, and rob you!

Before you go red faced with what you did in the summer of ’08 the data only started recording in June 2010 with the iOS 4 update.

So, all those jealous partners who think – woo hoo I can find out where my other half was on the night they claimed to be sleeping in the office – take a minute, you may find out more than you bargained for!

At the moment there isn’t a way to stop your device collecting this data and Apple are claiming the reasons for this are legitimate – but now that the whole world knows that Apple are sneaky voyeurs I doubt it will be long before someone puts a stop to this gross invasion of privacy.
