Facebook is everyones fave tool - we love to post pics, tag rank photos of friends, comment about our lives and our ups and downs - but when it comes to using it as a business tool the rule book changes.
As a user you need to be aware of your privacy settings and what a potential employer/your boss might see and how that could affect your position. For example don't take a sick day and then check in to the beach, while slagging off your job - there won't be one to come back to!
If you are a business and you want to promote through Facebook here are a few tips on how to get the most out of the site.
Be relevant
Interact don’t just broadcast. Fans need a reason to connect with you. What kind of content would your fans want? When to post is also important, don’t spam your fans.
Manage content
Don’t delete negative comments, or argue with fans – make sure you moderate and then respond to complaints and issues in a professional manner.
Be prepared to take time
It isn’t just about setting up a page and assuming everyone will like it, you need to update and monitor it constantly.
Learn about Facebook
Make sure you are aware of how your logo looks when it is tiled, you don’t want to miss the point of promotion. Check the analytics and Insights to see what is working and what isn’t.
Don’t violate the terms – Facebook has strict rules that must be adhered to, many businesses build a personal page instead of a business page while others fail to the rules on contests and competitions.
Also, tagging people and commenting- just to get noticed is a violation if the Facebook users report your behaviour as abuse.
