Although Apple is a strong brand, their Mac's may be beautiful and have some impressive tech behind them, there is no denying the fact that PC's are the dominant computer in most office spaces - and in fact in most homes.

In fact, the pie chart below shows just how dominant the PC is in the personal marketplace.

The reason they are so popular is in part due to their low price, there accessibility, and that they are simple repair.

Plus, they are familiar, everyone understands the basic PC model, whether a desktop or laptop, buying a new model still feels as comfortable.

Why, well one major aspect is the same throughout makes and models - Microsoft Office - the most popular software suite around.

According to Microsoft, Office is currently used by more than 750 million users worldwide - with over 80% of companies using the software.

Office has taken over our lives, and without it we fee a little lost. It isn't because it is the only suite out there -there are loads of alternatives, some are even free (Google Doc's, OpenOffice.org etc) but it's because everyone knows how to use it.

Although we all may curse and shout at Office, nothing can really offer the same level of functionality - even the all encompassing Google.

If a suite that could appeared what would be the likelihood that it would be embraced? It would take an awful lot of time and money to get IT to change the software within the business.

Can anything dislodge the world from Microsoft Office?  Or will it rule forever?
