Simon and I scored a presentation piece for VBug in August
Based on the success of the Microsoft Mix07 'Be All You Can Be Challenge', VBug asked us to do a seminar on how it was all put together, from Expression Design, into Expession Blend to add all the visual states and into Visual Studio to wire up the events and data, to then be displayed on the form for all to see
It's in Bracknell on the 12th of August 2008, stars Creative Jar's finest silverlight developers and there will be refreshments courtesy of Conchango who have also blogged the event for max spider effect http://blogs.conchango.com/michelleflynn/archive/2008/07/09/vbug-bracknell-creating-silverlight-apps-using-blend-amp-vs-08.aspx
Event is listed here >> http://www.vbug.co.uk/Events/August-2008/VBUG-Bracknell-Creating-Silverlight-apps-using-Blend-and-VS08.aspx
The CJ mascot appears to have gone walkabout this week! Oh well, let’s hope he makes an appearance next week....
So I downloaded it, partly out of curiosity and partly in an attempt to be part of 'history' http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7457503.stm
But then once installed, I realised that everytime I download a Windows Update I am probably part of the largest download in history - it seems to be a bit of a stunt to make an attempt on a world record where no record exists.... Maybe my one download has done it!
Heres the proof.
At least it renders sites in a similar fashion to it's previous version..
As designers and developers we often have to accomodate a variety of user settings. This is one that hopefully deosn't become a standard!
Amazingly IE7 can handle this, and not only that but a 'restore default settings' clears this up in one go!

This is quite a nice flash site I found this morning. It is in Russian I think but still looks cool!
Rob, Greg and Joe try out their skills at the Skate park... the MD thinks he can skate and some dodgy graffiti!
Similar to http://del.icio.us/ MSDN have released their own Social Bookmarking site for developers.
Takes a bit of setting up, but then it is made by Developers for Developers, so complex apps are expected

Also checkout the new MSDN very good starting point for ALOT of information.
After much ado, the second beta for silverLight 2.0 is here
and about time too!! I as promised in a recent meeting at Microsoft that the final release would happen this summer so the second beta is still pretty tight for time considering it's meant to mop up the bugs for the final relase and all that
anyway, check out ScottGu's blog-tastic post on the subject >> http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2008/06/06/silverlight-2-beta2-released.aspx
There's a whole new control toolkit, more versions of Expression Studio (Blend is still 2.5 but it's the June 2008 Preview now) and Deep Zoom composer tool
Wonder when they're going to start charging people for Expression Studio? :¬)
cheers
Tim
An interesting new product released by Adobe, using the Air platform. Looks like it's software for people who do meetings, but still it looks simple to use and only requires Flash Player 9.
